Today I completed the first out of four races in the Memphis Winter Off-Road Race Series! The series consists of a 3k, 5k, 8k, and 10k. Today was the 3k! I don’t have too much experience in trail running, so this is exciting for me. I do have my first half marathon this upcoming Saturday, though, (eek!) so I wanted to make sure I was careful not to hurt my ankle.
One of the reasons I signed up for this series is because all of the races are on Sundays at 2 PM– meaning I don’t have to worry about work interference, and I can still sleep in! I met up with a running group I just joined, the Schweddy Belles, and we tried to stay warm. It was pretty cold/windy, but I was glad it wasn’t raining. Once the race started, I did my 3 minute run/1 minute walk intervals until I got to the trail entrance. Once we entered the trails, it was too narrow/muddy to really pass anyone so I ran the whole time. My pace then was pretty slow, though. Once we exited the trail, I ran as fast as I could to the finish! The distance was short, and this race was over quickly. Afterwards, I grabbed an orange, and then I was on my way home to a warm shower.
Here are my results:
